Volunteers help children select books, and check them in/out during their visit to the Conant library. You will also work with the media assistants to shelve books and assist in other related tasks. The time commitment is usually once a week for 1+ hours in the morning or afternoon. Every effort is made to place volunteers in time slots that coincide with their children's visit the library.
Explore our schoolyard with your children. Learn about Acton's Ecosystem and have fun doing it! We'll teach you everything you need to know to have a rewarding and successful time with the small groups of students you will take out on nature walks. You are welcome to assist at any grade level with age-appropriate guided observations.
Work on various projects, which occur throughout the year, such as the food, clothing and book drives, "Pennies for Pediatrics" or other events. All of these projects involve Conant students with the goal of enhancing their understanding of what it means to reach out to their community.
Be a part of helping to beautify the outside of our school. We work in groups several times a year as well as on individual tasks. No skill is required and young children are welcome.
Help supply baked goods as needed for school events such as PTO meetings, New Student Orientation, Halloween, Kindergarten Night, Memorial Day, etc.
Work with the international families and representatives at Conant, as well as with Douglas School families on the annual "Festival of Cultures" event.
Our biggest committee, Fundraising has many sub-groups that meet throughout the year to work on various events. One of the newer fundraisers is the Scrip Program. Scrip is a term that means "substitute money". When you purchase Scrip, you´re purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid store cards that are used just like cash. You can use Scrip store cards to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, gas, and other essentials. Our newest program is ShopForConant where you purchase items from various vendors through Shop.com and Conant PTO receives funds while you receive cash back.
Our Craft Fair involves the help of almost every teacher. Many parents assist by working in the Snack Bar, at the Bake Sale table or by collecting admission fees at the door.
The Book Fair comes to school for a week in December and is staffed by parents who get to work with their child's class if they so choose.
During the Ice Cream Social parents take shifts to keep the sundae bar moving smoothly while others relax with their children and friends in the cafeteria.
